                          Love In Trinidad

First I found Trini Love in St. Lucia when I met my wife, then on my most recent trip to Trinidad I found Love when I met the people…

Let me explain…I do not come from the school of thought that says that as a photographer you must go everywhere with a camera, and you will rarely find me with a camera unless it is in pursuit of a specific assignment.  To make matters worse when I travel I will not take a camera unless, again, I am off on assignment.

However my trip to Trinidad was the exception as I hoped to come back with some fun pictures from Tobago, as a prelude to a longer trip when I could shoot at a more leisurely pace there.

Now I am always skeptical about shooting pictures of people, as I never know how they will react, so I always ask, and at the slightest hint of discomfort on my subject’s part I simply refrain.

So you can imagine my shock and horror when I got to the beach in Trinidad and started shooting pictures of the beach scene and some people from a distance, when the crowd above asked if I wasn’t going to take their picture.

Well I was absolutely stunned, to say the least, as the whole group started posing and smiling and asking if those pictures were going to appear in "The Punch", which I’ve been told is the "saucy Trini newspaper.  

Funny thing is, when I told my most accommodating subjects that I was from St. Lucia, so I didn’t think their pictures would make "The Punch", they proceeded to pose some more while asking if their pictures would make the papers over there!

Now I can hardly wait for  my next trip to Trinidad…with camera in tow – of course!
