Day 32/333 Left
St. Lucia Photographer Shares A Photo A Day
With The World For A Year!

St.Lucia Poui Tree
This is the most vibrant poui tree I’ve ever seen!
For those who know St.Lucia, and for those who will visit soon.
this tree sits right across the road from the Castries
Comprehensive Secondary School at The Butchers’ House.
As a kid growing up I visited this house regularly because
Ma Butcher was my Grandma’s friend. In fact my Grandfather
had purchased land from The Butchers and from there a
friendship grew.
Many years later when I became a photographer I was
amazed at the beautiful flowers in the tree because I had
never noticed them as a kid. Maybe it’s because back then
children were seen and not heard, as you sat quietly while
the adults spoke and you only spoke when you were spoken
to…now kids are going to school with guns and ripping up
the place…OMG – What have we become?!
Or maybe I never noticed the beautiful flowers because we
never happened to visit when the tree was in bloom.
You see this flower show happens only once a year and
lasts just a week or two before the tree returns to being
just another old green tree!
So I am very happy to be able to share this show with the
world as the brevity of this tree’s bloom reminds me how
fleeting life can be and the value of sharing…
Please comment and share what the values were when
you were growing up. I’d really love to know & maybe
we could all compare notes…

I love this tree…. I know it well. I drive slowly and stare at it for as long as possible once it is in bloom, which like you said is not for long. Well done!

Ahh Rhondy Rose,
So nice to receive a comment from you. I think this poui tree has a special place in the hearts of every St. Lucian who drives past it when it is in bloom and I’m just happy to be able to share it’s beauty with the whole wide world.
