St. Lucia Photographer Shares A Photo A Day
With The World For A Year!

Classic St. Lucia Sunset Wedding
For as beautiful as this classic St. Lucia Sunset Wedding photo is most photographers in St. Lucia are incapable of making such a picture and they get it completely wrong. And the tragedy is that a bride may never know since she is unlikely to miss the picture she never got!
This is actually a complex lighting situation with the backlight being quite intense, thus making the camera tend towards creating a silhouette of the bride and groom,or totally over exposing the background and leaving the sky completely white…Yuck!
To produce these shots I first take a reading off the brightest section of the sky. I then underexpose my camera by maybe a stop of light and over expose my flash by 1/3 or 2/3 of a stop.
However the magic of such a shot comes from my ability to show the happy couple exactly what I’m capturing. This one simple act just draws the bride and groom in like a lucky charm every time and is responsible for the totally spontaneous expressions that you see me capture so effortlessly.
Oh, and I must also mention that when creating such complex lighting masterpieces I read the histogram on the back of my camera like a skilled musician reads a musical score.
Yeah, truth is it looks like gibberish to the world, but sweet music to the skilled practitioner.
By the way "Do you use your camera’s histogram, cause I hope you know that it is a photographer’s best friend!
