Its cruise-ship season again in St. Lucia and the island weather this time of year is at its most spectacular.  All these elements came together to help me make this shot which to my mind simply says: Classic Island Scenery!

                                           Real St. Lucia Weddings

Just about anyone can get married anywhere in St. Lucia, but for me the real magic of a St. Lucia Wedding is getting out with the bride & groom, especially if they have come away on their own, & discovering the true essence of St. Lucia.

With this couple we did exactly that.  After the wedding we left the resort and took an island trip that took us down to Soufriere, arguably St. Lucia’s most scenic west end town.

And what a time we had, interacting with the villagers and just really kicking back and having fun.

…And we came away with some spectacular wedding treasures

                     Wedding Card Reflections

You know how the new web 2.0 style is to have reflections emanating from objects by using photoshop?  Well when I saw these wedding cards’ reflections at a recent wedding I couldn’t help myself shooting an image of real reflections.  And its a good thing I did as it made me realise that a good deal of gaussian blur must be utilized when using photoshop, so as to maintain an element of authenticity in the photoshop reflection.

Ah, the things we can learn just from studying how the real world works!

At a recent BMW Golf Tournament I was reminded of just how Caribbean we are when I saw these red painted coconuts next to the BMW markers out on the green!

            Sunrise in St. Kitts

A very important compositional element that is never really spoken about is the color of light.  While on assignment shooting a wedding at the Marriott in St. Kitts I went out early one morning to explore the resort with my camera.

In this shot I was attracted by the shadows on the wall, but wanted to give them some context of space so I included the rondells that created the shadows as well as the sections of the hotel in the back.

Two things give away the fact that it is either very early or very late in the day…the fact that the shadows are pitched at a very acute angle, and the warm golden color of the light.

In fact even without seeing the sun in the sky, just from the color of the picture you can tell that this warm golden glow was enveloping everything that it touched.

Next time you’re out shooting pictures endeavor to use the color of the light to your advantage…and remember that it is not by chance that photographers refer to the light up to an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset as "Magic Hour Light"…

                  A Stunningly Golden Sunset

Every now and then the Gods bless us with a stunningly beautiful sunset.  On this day I was lucky enough to be on spot to capture the show.

Now its oft been said that luck occurs at the junction where preparation and opportunity intersect.  So my question today is:  How have you prepared to be at that junction TODAY?!
