While searching for the photo to post today I came across this one that 
I sent to Alex some time ago, and thought: "Hey this is the picture that
should have been posted."   So here’s sharing a double dose of Alex
with everyone…And now for today’s photo:

Sports Fishing Boats Heading Out Across Rodney Bay AT Top Speed

My very first trip with Alex started out like this.  Now how could I not be
hooked on aerial photography from there on after?!

The island to the right is Pigeon Island, that iconic venue of The St. Lucia 
Jazz Festival and one of the nicest outdoor venues for St. Lucia Weddings.

Pigeon Island is a St. Lucia National Trust site with military ruins dating 
back to the 1600′s…over 400 years ago!

In more recent times Pigeon Island was used as an American Signal
Station during World War II when the American Navy hid a fleet of their
fighter planes right across the bay on a hugh concrete platform known
locally as The Ramp.

Today The Ramp is less than half it’s original size with the advent of large 
beachside resorts.

Meet The St. Lucia Helicopters Team…This is where I get
                                      my high!

See that pilot on the right?…That’s Alex – The best darn chopper
pilot in the world and I trust him with my life.  Alex is simply a
cyborg with his machine!

Now this is not to say that the other pilots aren’t any good…Hell No! 

It’s just that the first time I ever flew in a chopper it was with Alex,
over the ocean, chasing big sports fishing boats, with no doors on
the chopper and me kinda hanging outside!…Yeah, real fun stuff!!

Well Alex promised to scare the you know what out of me, and little
did I know that I was up to the challenge.

Anyhow the shoot went off well, the guys on the boats loved what
we did and I brought back some really great photos. 

Then when we got back to the hangar I looked Alex straight in the
eye and asked: "So when do I get the scary part?"  And the rest
as they say is history.

I really love shooting with Alex, because he loves photography and
truly flies his machine as if he were in the passenger’s seat shooting
the photos.  And amazingly there is precious little exchange of words
between us when we work together.  It’s almost as if he’s in my head
and knows the exact shot that I want.

Some of my best aerial photography has been shot with Alex at the
helm and sometimes in as little as 10 minutes of being over a site.

Shall we call this the case where 1+1=1 that’s even better?!

I created this composite for a workshop that I recently conducted
for the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States’ staff who wanted
a clear understanding of how to use a digital camera that they had
recently acquired.  I started the class by showing them why we
should never take for granted anything that we see in a picture, and
judging from the suggestions I received regarding the anomaly I
think it important to restate that point.

With today’s digital cameras and photo editing software the sky
might as well be the starting point rather than the limit, and as
photographers we have a responsibility to our clients and to the
world as to what we will make the truth out to be.

My congratulations to my friend, Joseph Fontenelle of Coco Creole,
a beautiful little boutique hotel in St. Lucia.

I ran into Joseph yesterday when my wife dragged me along to
check out accommodations for her friends who are coming to
St. Lucia next month for the One Day Cricket Match. 

As soon as I saw Joseph he greeted me with: "The anomaly is the
helicopter, right?…I kept looking and couldn’t find one of the blades!"

Seems like I didn’t do as good a job as I thought…And that taught
me that you can never be too careful in anything that you do and I
hope that I’ve learnt my own lesson well.
